Epiphany (Jordan’s Day) in Kurtovo Konare

According to the Orthodox calendar, Jordan’s Day marks the baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. At the moment of baptism, the sky “opens” and the Holy Spirit descends on Christ in the form of a dove, and a voice is heard from heaven:
“This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Hence the name of the holiday.

Jordanovden is one of the biggest holidays for Kurtovo Konare. After the church service, the whole village and many guests gather on the river Vacha, where the ritual throwing of the cross takes place. The guest of the celebration was Mr. Rusko Rusev-Deputy. Mayor of Stamboliyski Municipality, who greeted and rewarded the young brave men who jumped into the icy waters.
